COUNTERFEIT COINS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Copyright. Received May 26, 9.50 p.m. Sydney, May 26. The police have issued a warning that thousands of counterfeit shillings and florins are in circulation. They are excellent imitations, requiring an expert to detect them. The police opinion is that the coins were manufactured in China.—Aus.-N.Zi Cable Assn.
DUTY ON FIJI BANANAS. Received May 26, SJSS p.m. Sydney, May 26. In future a duty of one penny per pound will be levied on Fiji bananas, which formerly paid 2/6 per hundred pounds. It is feared in some quarters that thp new duty will not only kill the import of bananas, but will cause a deflection of much of the present Australian export trade to Fiji to New Zealand and America.—Auc.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
