PERSONAL.

The Prime Minister (Mr. W. F. Mas sey) was due to arrive in England yes terday.

At yesterday’s special meeting of the Taranaki County Council Mr. J. S. Connett, on the motion of Cr. J. Andrews, seconded by Cr. O. Penwarden, was reelected chairman for the ensuing year.

Mrs. J. Corrigali, of New Plymouth, proceeds to Dunedin this morning to join Mr. Corrigali, who is receiving special treatment in hospital there. Colonel J. W. Hutc'hen, who served with the New Zealand Expeditionary i'dree during the war, has been appointed Secretary of the Samoan Administration. He will occupy a position next under the Administrator, Colonel Tate. Colonel Hutchen is a brother of Mr. D. Hutchen, of New Plymouth. For the position of chairman of the Eltham County Council two members were proposed at yesterday’s statutory meeting, Messrs C. J. Belcher and C. E. McGuinness. The voting was equal, and lots were drawn, Cr. Belcher being the lucky—or unlucky—one. Cr. Belcher has been chairman for several years, and desired to retire last year, but was persuaded to continue in* the service of the ratepayers.

Mr. W. E. Percival, of Inglewood, who has been suffering from ill-health for some time, has resigned from the executive of the Taranaki Provincial War Relief Association, and at yesterday’s annual meeting of the association at Stratford, the chairman (Mr. W. P. Kirkwood) expressed the members’ sincere regret at Mr. Percival’s continued illness. He moved that the secretary convey to Mr. Percival the regret of the meeting that his ill-health had compelled him to resign, expressing the sincere hope that Mr. Percival would make a speedy recovery. The motion was carried unanimously.
