THREE YEARS’ HARD LABOR.
COCKBURN 'SENTENCED. FOR “TERABIDOC” FRAUDS. Thomas Keen Cockburn, found guilty of obtaining money with intent to defraud, in the course of operations as "manager and secretary” of the Terabidoc Building Syndicate, was sentenced in the Wellington Supreme Court on Saturday, by His Honor Mr. Justice Hosking, to three years’ imprisonment with hard labor. Cockburn was found guilty on Friday, upon three charges, and he was sentenced on each, the terms of imprisonment to be concurrent. Addressing His Honor prior to the passing of sentence, counsel <for the prisoner referred to Cockburn-, as a man of ability. “Yes,” said the Judge. “Through his ability he has been able to perpetrate these frauds so successfully The police report is not favorable,” added His Honor, speaking tp Cockburn. “Do you admit having misappropriated moneys belonging to the Goldberg Advertising Company ?” “Yes,” answered Cockburn. “And of a. Sunday School?” pursued the Judge. “No, Your Honor,” was the reply. Sentence was then passed.
