FASHION PLATE DANDIES. On Thursday the Fashion Plate Dandies will begin a season at the Empire Theatre. Speaking of this company a northern paper says: “Nothing more sparkling, with clean humpr and a pretty turn of wit, could be conceived than their quaint ensembles and light concerted numbers. In this class of work the Fashion Plates’ excel, and it is a distinct and added pleasure to find that a field of originality has been exploited, and there is a freshness in both material and presentation. In individual items each member displays talent of a high standard, and enters whole-heartedly into the number whether it be song, story, or dance. A spirit of lightsome gaiety permeates the show.” It is some time since a costume comedy company has appeared locally, and the advent of “Fashion Plate Dandies” should prove a welcome event to amusement-seekers. An exchange says: “The popularity of ‘The Dandies’ never wanes. Long before the advertised time for commencement people were being turned from the doors, as all seating accommodation was occupied. The performance given by the new company was bright, clean, and snappy. In solo or ensemble there was perfection. Artistry was the keynote throughout, and at the conclusion of the programme it was unanimously conceded that this new company of Fashion Plate Dandies well upheld the excellent reputation established by their many predecessors. The box* plan is at Collier’s.
