CORRESPONDENCE.
SCHOOL TEMPERANCE DAY. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Now that we have a progressive Minister of Education —(Mr. Parr) —and he has sent out such an admirable pamphlet in “Special Reports on Educational Subjects, No. 13/ it may be that educational authorities generally will not be above noting what is done in other lands in this direction. By late news from America we learn that in the State of Ohio the House of Representatives passed a bill establishing the Friday nearest to January 16tb of each year as a ’day on which at least tw.o hours shall be devoted to a special temperance programme prepared by the ’superintendent of public Instruction. This applies to all schools in the State. Perhaps our educationalists might improve upon the Ohio plan and make the temperance programme more frequent than once a year, say once a quarter; but that can be left, so long as the Teaching is given in schools the public will be satisfied. —I am, etc., G.H.M. New Plymouth, May 21, 1921.
