SOME INTERESTING COMPARISONS. EXPANSION OF TRADE. At last night’s deputation to the General Manager of Railways, Mr. E. P. Webster (president of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce) submitted comparative figures showing the importance and prosperity of Taranaki. In the following New Plymouth represents practically the whole of the province: POST AND TELEGRAPH REVENUE.
CUSTOMS REVENUE. (For the year ended March 31, 1921.) £ Wanganui 86,451 New Plymouth 79,990 Gisborne „ 69,598 Timaru 55,409 For the four untynths ended April 39, 1921, the revenue collected in Now Plymouth was £29,460, or at the rate of £88,380 for the TRADE OF THE PORT. The total trade of the port of New Plymouth was as follows : Tons. 1910 90,108 1920 123,954 4 Months 1921 45,368 The trade for the flrat four montfcs is at the rate of 136,104 tons for the year. The pos--Bij>illties are that it will exceed this total. VALUE OF SHIPMENTS, PORT OF N.P. (Imports and Exports.) £ 1916 1,447,179 1920 2,368,194 4 months, 1921 .... 1,637,398 VALUE OF EXPORTS. The total value of exports from the whole of Taranaki (New Plymouth, Waitara and Patea), for the year ending March 31 last was nearly five millions sterling, equal to over £BO per head of population, the average for the. Dominion for the same year being about £5O.
