PERSONAL.
Mr. H. Atmore, M.P. for Nelson, is visiting New Plymouth. A cable from London announces the death of Lady Bancroft, the well-known actress. Mr. C. R. Beattie, of Palmerston North, who returned last week from the Old Country, is at present oq a visit to Taranaki. Mr. F. C. Kimbell, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Levin, who is well-known in Taranaki, has been granted leave of absence for health reasons, and will leave in a few weeks’ time on a visit to England. Many friends in South Taranaki will learn with deep regret of the death after a short illness of Mrs. Barron, wife of Dr. Barron, at the Lower Hutt, Wellington. Mrs. Barron was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Parkes, of Hawera, and formerly settlers for many years in Awatuna. She was a sister of Mrs. C. N. Innes, of Manaia. .
Wellington papers report the death, suddenly, of Mr. Robert Darby, who for years was senior sergeant in the Police Force. The late Senior-Sergeant Darby was born on March 23, 1849, and was, therefore, 72 years of age at the time of his death. He had an honorable career in the Police Force, from which he resigned some years ago, and was held in the highest esteem. Mr. J. W. Darby, of New Plymouth, is a son.
