NEW PLYMOUTH COUNCIL. CONTROL OF TRAFFIC. Th New Plymouth Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson), and Councillors V. S. Griffiths, R. L. Parkin, E. Dingle, T. N. Blackball, J. Kibbv, and W. Rumball. An offer was received (from Mr N. Fulton to pay £1 in every £5 towards the cost of installing a warning mark in the road at Dr. Home’s corner, with a view to controlling traffic at this dangerous corner. Mr. Fulton stated that it was evident that it might be some considerable time before sufficient power was available to light a “silent detective” at street corners, but he pointed out that the chief danger at such corners was not at night time, when the lights of motors made their approach more readily observed, but in f;he daylight, when vehicles were usually rounding the corners before being seen. The council deferred Mr. Fulton’s offer for further consideration. NGAMOTU DOMAIN. A letter was received from Mr. W. H. Fitzpatrick, suggesting that the council call a public meeting of the residents of Whiteley, Moturoa and Spotswood districts for the purpose of electing a Ngamotu Domain Board for the control of the Ngamotu Domain. It was decided to call a meeting next week, at a time and place to be arranged. GENERAL: Mr. W. Brodie wrote drawing attention to the state of Belt Road and the footpaths, and asked that something be done to improve the road.—The matter was referred to the management committee.
Mr. Kyngdon, contractor, wrote asking that the council assist him in repairing the short road leading from Rimu Street to-his crusher site. Mr. Kyngdon offered to supply material and cartage free if the council would scarify, spread and roll the metal in.— Councillors pointed out that the road was used solely by Mr. Kyngdon, and his heavy traffic was responsible for the baff state of the road, and they did not consider that the council should be asked to spend the estimated amount ( £2O) to put the road in order. It was eventually decided to refer the matter to the finance committee. The secreary of the Mount Byron Reserve Committee wrote tendering the resignation of that honorary committee, stating that it was impossible to carry on, as a number of the members of the committee had left the locality. —The resignation was accepted. The borough inspector,, Mr. R. Day, was given authority to accept an offer of £4O for the steam boiler at the municipal swimming baths at present used for heating purposes, and to install a copper coil in its pmce. Mr. Day pointed out that in of the high cost of cOal the coil would be much more economical in operation.
