DISTRICT NEWS.
WHAREHUIA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A well-attended meeting of the residents k Wharehula, to discuss the erection of a public hall, was held last Wednesday evening, when about forty were present. Mr. L. 8. Hart, who presided, explained the need for such a building and the way to solve the problem. After some discussion in regard to a site, Mr. Ron Phillips generously offered a portion of land for the purpose in a central position, close to the local factory and mid-way to the outlying district.
That the object of the meeting had the earnest support of all present was clearly shown when the chairman brought up the matter of finance, and In a few minutes the sum of £lOO was donated. A committee was appointed to canvass the district, and it is expected that a splendid response will result, and in a short ttms there will be a building not only for dancing, but for concerts, meetings, and other functions.
