MELBOURNE SENSATION.
ARREST OF STATE OFFICIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Received May 20, 7JO p.m. Melbourne, May 20. A sensation has been caused by the arrest of J. M. Worthington, Sergeant-•t-Arms in the State Parliament, on a charge of corruptly taking money directly, upon account of helping a person to valuable security which had been stolen. The arrest followed an investigation of a number of recent safe robberies, including £2BOO worth .of war bonds. It is alleged Worthington sounded the War Bonds Office about purchasing bonds, saying he was acting for a man who held them. Acting in concert with investigating detectives, the office made an arrangement to pay £750 if the bonds were returned later. It is stated Worthington reported at the office, received the £750 in cash and signed an undertaking to produce the bonds.— Aus.-NX Cable Assn.
