PERSONAL.
Mrs. Fred Wallis, of New Plymouth, who recently underwent a serious operation is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mass Joyce Wilson was among the successful candidates at the November examinations of the New Zealand University, securing the degree of Bachelor of Science for passes in pure mathematics and botany. Mr. W. H. Rowe, of Bell Block, foreman of the Hawera Technical School building, now nearly completed, was the recipient of a gold watch from the employees on Tuesday last. Mr. George Daly made the presentation in an appropriate speed, and the health of the recipient was drunk with hearty cheers.
At yesterday’s Farmers’ Union conference, at Eltham, the president (Mr. R. Dunn) referred to the splendid work which had been done for the union by Mr. R. Lambie, of Pjhama, and stated that Mr. Lambie’s appointment as a life member of the union in recognition of his services was practically completed. He had hoped to be able to present Mr. Lambie with his certificate of life membership that day, but unfortunately it had not come to hand. The appointment was the highest honor which the union could confer on its members, and he understood that there was only one other life member of the union, and that was Sir James Wilson. Mr. Lambie returned thanks for the honor conferred on him, and expressed the hope that the union would continue to grow and prosper.
