TRADE IN CATTLE.
BIG SHIPMENT TO JAVA.
TARANAKI STOCK INCLUDED.
One of the most valuable consignments of eattle yet exported from the Dominion will leave these shores this week, in the shape of a <wnsignment of B 4 head. The animals are destined for Java, and they will be dispatched on the Sydney boat, en route to the Dutch dependency. The cattle have been purchased in New Zealand fay Dr. VanderPoel and Mr. de Boer, of Java, who have spent several weeks looking over herds in both islands.
The shipment comprises:—Two pedigree Holstein bulls, 15 pedigree Holstein heifers, 17 grade heifers, 2 pedigree Ayrshire bulls, and 30 pedigree Ayrshire heifers. The Holsteins have been purchased from the following breeders: —Messr4. W. Barton, Featherston; Paul Lovelock and Green, Palmerston North; Hitchcock, Wright. Radford and Betts, Taranaki. The Ayrshire® one from the following breeders: —Kyle, Palmerston North: Mills, Hawera; and the Porirua Mental Hospital. This is not the first shipment of New Zealand pedigree cattle to Java. Last vear several lots of Holsteins were sent to the Dutch East Indies from these shores, and judging by the present demand they have found favor with Java farmers. Messrs Vander-Poel and de Boer were very favorably impressed with the New Zealand herds, and it is. understood that there are further possibilities ahead of the Dominion’s export trade in this connection.
