Sydney, May 17. Following the decision to insist on Saturday work a number of employes? in the building trades were dismissed on Monday through absenting themselves on Saturday.
MOUNT LYELL MINES. Melbourne, May 17. The board of directors of the Mount. Lyell Company has issued a statement that it is forced to close the mines in- view of the heavy loss if operations are coritinued under existing conditions. Instructions have been given for the cessation of all operations at Queenstown and Kembla on June I®.
