s London, May 16. Playing the Army, Navy and Air Force teaun at Portsmouth, Australia, in the first innings, made 395. The weather was sunny and the wicket good, and the attendance was 6000. It was not affected by Sunday’s rain. The Australian Innings closed after 30 minutes’ play. Armstrong was caught off the last ball of Borrows’ first over without adding r to bis unfinished score—Six for 345. Gregory and Andrews carried the total to 372, when the former was ni.cely taken by Fowler. He had been previously dropped by Wilkinson. Mayne was clean bowled at 10, and Borrows quickly disposed of the last two wickets. The first innings of United Services was declared closed when nine wickets were down for 260. The home team batted freely, and '5O was hoisted after 40 minutes’ play. Williams was given out when the total was 21. The second wicket fell at 52, the fourth at 95, and the fifth a run later. Tbe century appeared in 90 minutes. F. Brooke was playing with fearless brilliant drives, and Oldfield missed stumping him, the ball going %r four byes, but the wicket-keeper redeemed his mistake shortly afterwards. Collins bowled eight overs for five runs, then .Dickenson drove him to the boundary twice. The eighth wicket went down when the score was 178, and the second century was reached after playing for three hours/ r Fowler and Archdale provided sparkling batting. Fowler contributed 50 out of 86 made in 75 minutes with splendid crisp off strokes. The* innings was declared closed at 5.40. The twenty minutes remaining till stumps were drawn sufficed to account for one Australian wicket, Brooke smartly stumping Collins.
