MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING.
A sitting of the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Mr. J. Orr Walker, S.M. Joseph Rielly was charged with being an idle and disorderly person without lawful means of support. On the application of the police a remand was granted to the 19th inst. Thomas Joseph Spalding was charged with the theft at Waitara on April 6, of a brief bag, a Bengal razor and strop, a pocket knife, a shaving brush, and a pair of scissors, of a total value of £3 3s 6d, the property of Geo. T. B. Kenah, farmer, of Okoke. On the application of the police accused was remanded till Thursday, 19th. inst., bail being allowed, self £5O, and one surety for £6O.
George Derby appeared on remand to answer a charge of unlawfully and carnally knowing a girl under the age of 16. Detective-Sergeant Cooney appeared for the police and Mr. R. H. Quilliam represented the accused.
Evidence was called on behalf of the police and accused was committed to the next session of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth for trial, bail being allowed, self £lOO and two sureties of £lOO each.
