INJURED BY MOTOR-CAR.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. Edward John Thoreau, of Campbell Street, was knocked down by a motorcar, driven by James Persson, near the Post Office to-night. Thoreau was removed to hospital in a critical condition.

FATAL FALL FROM TREE.

Wellington, Last Night. In connection with the death of Henry Samuel Haise, who expired in hospital from injuries sustained through falling from a tree, it was stated at the inquest that deceased climbed pinus insignia tree to a height of 60 feet, and had descended in safety to within twenty feet of the ground. There he caught hold of a rotten branch, which broke, and deceased fell and frac, tured his skull. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
