THEFT CHARGE FAILS.
By Telegraph—Pross Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. At the Supreme Court, Francis Cassidy, a railway employee, was charged with the theft of a quantity of woollen goods valued at £417 19s 6d, the property of Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwell and Co., from a truck on the .Awapuni siding, near Palmerston North. He was found not guilty.
THE CLOTHING TRADE.
Wellington, Last Night.
A Dominion conference of delegates representing various unions affiliated to the "Wholesale Clothing and Trade-mak-ers’ Federation is now being held. Delegates are present from the principal centres, Mr. J. T. Paul presiding. The object of the conference is to frame a demand for a new award. Later a joint conference of employers and employees in the industry will be held, at which the federation’s claims will be presented and discussed.
BAKERS AND THE BONUS.
Christchurch, May 16.
The Bakers’ and Pastry Cooks’ Union passed a resolution strongly protesting against the decision of the Arbitration Court to cancel a 2s bonus previously granted and the refusal to award the new bonus of 3s which the Government Statistician showed was due. The union also passed a resolution recording a protest against the attitude of Mr. McCullough in supporting the court’s decision and that it has no confidence in him as its representative.
