WRECK OF THE BENALLA.

The passengers on the Benalla were not allowed to leave the deck until the vessel was beached, and only partially dressed many tramped the decks in bare feet for hours. In an impromptu dance during the long wait before dawn women with bare feet and hair streaming down their backs, dressed in nightgowns and with blankets wrapped round their bodies, danced with men in pyjamas and dressing gowns.
