Received May 15, 11.5 p.m. Washington, May 14. Mr. John W. Weeks (Secretary of War) announces that President Harding has signed a proclamation declaring martial law in Kentucky and West Virginia,, but the proclamation will not be issued unless further adverse developments take place. Governor Morrow, of Kentucky, telegraphs that the authorities are gaining control.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
THE DISORDERS CONTINUE.

Messages from Williamstown (Virginia) state that bitter fighting continues between the mine-workers’ factions in West Virginia and Kentucky Hills. Several towns were subjected to heavy fusilades, and the inhabitants were forced to stay indoors without supplies. Six contestants were killed and numbers wounded. State troops have been despatched to suppress the outbreaks, and Federal troops have been ordered to be in readiness.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
