J. C. Rowe, £1 15s 6d (9s).
A possession of tenement case, which attracted some attention—J. Davidson v. 'G. S. Whitehead—was, after argument on both sides, non-suited without costs.
FAREWELL TO MAGISTRATE.
Before the Magistrate adjourned today, Mr. H. J. M. Thomson, speaking on behalf of the law practitioners of Inglewood, said farewell to Mr. Bailey, S.M., stating that he and his confreres of Inglewood sincerely regretted Mr. Bailey’s removal from this sphere of his activities as a magistrate. They had nothing but admiration for the fairness of his decisions, and satisfaction with the good feeling that had always existed between Bench and Bar; and he knew he was only faintly echoing the feelings of the fraternity at Inglewood by wishing Mr. Bailey health, happiness and success in his new environment.
Mr. Bailey feelingly replied. He had never received less than the utmost courtesy at Inglewood. He had always been on friendly terms with his local brethren of the robe, and hoped that he should find as pleasant surroundings where he was going, though he could not expect better. But before concluding, he felt that he was in duty bound to give testimony to the keen, honest and intelligent assistance he had always experienced at Inglewood from the local clerk of court (Constable F. Longlnottom). He hoped to hear of this district, and those of its inhabitants with whom he had come into such pleasant contact, as continuing in the prosperity they now enjoyed, and which he believed to be secured for them in the future.
