Stratford, May 13. The death occurred yesterday at her late residence in York Road of Mrs. Mary Haboweki, widow of the late Mr. Cosimer Habowski, at the advanced age of 79 years. The late Mrs. Haboweki arrived in New Zealand 46 years ago, and after spending 10 years in the Hokitika district she came to Taranaki, and she was farming on the York Road until her death. Her husband died twelve years ago, and she is survived by one son, Mr. John Habowski, of York Road, and one daughter, Mra. Steiller, of Kaimata. The funeral will take place on Sunday, leaving her late residence at 2.30 p.m. for the Midhirst cemetery. A motorist who attempted to pass another motor car while returning from Eltham last night, came to grief about half a mile south of the Ngaere railway station. The mishap occurred at a narrow portion of the road, and the car was turned into a steep bank, which it was unable to negotiate. A fair amount of damage was done to the car, but the driver and passengers were uninjured. Mr. F. E. Clarke, accountant for the Stratford branch of the Farmers’ Cooperative Organisation Society, was among the successful candidates at the recent accountancy examinations. A dance will be held by the Toko Oddfellows’ Lodge in the Douglas Hall on Tuesday evening next.' The music will be provided by Mrs. Bianchi, of Stratford, and the floor and supper will be of the best.

The enterprise of the Stratford A. and P Association in engaging well-known artists from other centres for the association’s annual concert has been thoroughly well justified on previous occasions, ,and the performers at the concert to be held in the Town Hall ou Thursday next have all been engaged from Wanganui. They include Mrs. Hughes-J-ohnteon, dhampion harpist of Australasia, Madam Ivo Symes, the well-known contralto, Miss HughesJohnson, a violinist of great attainments, Mr. George Swan, the popular humorist, Mias Audrey Hughes-Johnson, the talented young classic dancer who achieved great distinction in dancing beiore z the Prince of Wales. The accompaniments will be played by Miss R. Curran, L.A.8., A.T.C.L., who will also give solo items. A meeting of poultry-keepers was held to-night for the purpose of discussing the advisability of forming an eggcircle in Stratford. It was decided to form a circle, to be kjiown as the Stratford Egg Circle, and the following were elected as a preliminary committee:— Messrs. B. Sturm, W. Pinhey, A. J. Davy and S. A. Ward. Mr. Sturm was elected chairman, and the P.A.C. were appointed distributors for the circle. A set of rules was agreed upon, and it was decided that the committee make further inquiries regarding the working of egg circles in other towns and report to a later meeting. A meeting of the executive of the Stratford R.S.A. was held to-night, the president (Mr. E. H. Young) occupying the chair. A letter was received from the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society stating that a prize would be given for the best collection of war trophies. Discussion ensued with reference to the field gun, and it was decided to suggest to the Borough Council that the gun be placed on the corner of Regan Street and Broadway to act as a “silent policeman.” The matter of holding a dance was discussed, and it was decided to call a further meeting on May 25 to arrange details.
