ST. MARY’S CHURCH.

TWO MEMORIAL WINDOWS.

UNVEILING CEREMONY TO-MORROW.

An interesting ceremony will take ; place in St. Mary’s Church, New Ply- 1 mouth, to-morrow afternoon, commencing at 2.30, when two new stained glass windows will be unveiled. The windows have been placed in position in the north transept of the church, ready for the unveiling. The new windows are remarkably fine specimens of modern craftsmanship, and will form a very conspicuous object of \ beauty in St. Mary’s. A collection will be taken to defray expenses incidental) to the erection of the windows. The unveiling will be performed by Mrs, F. G. Evans and Mrs. W. D. Webster, and the prayers of dedication will be said, by Archdeacon Evans. There will be no Sunday School to-morrow afternoon at St. Mary’s, and parishioners are also re- t minded that their offerings at 8, 11 and 7 will be given to the Melanesian Mission.

One of these windows is in memory of Archdeacon Walsh, who was Vicar of Waitara some 45 years ago, and a great lover of St. Mary’s. He designed the South African War Memorial Cross in the churchyard, and painted the seven-

teen regimental hatchments which adorn the interior of the building. He was also the designer of St. John’s Church, Waitara. Later on he became Archdeacon of Waimate North, and died in Auckland some six years ago. The window in memory of him portrays the Good Shepherd. The other window is in memory of the Rev, A. H. Colville, who was Vicar of St. Mary’s from 1912 to 1917; it represents the great preacher St. John the Baptist. ,
