By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Received May 12, 5.5 p.m. New York, May 11. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P., the British Laborite, was given a hot reception on arriving here. A big crowd of IrishAmerican Laborites met the boat, flying banners inscribed: “Judas hanged himself What is Thomas going to do. Thomas betrayed the British miners.” Longshoremen booed him. While it is reported Mr. Thomas is here on a diplomatic mission he refused confirmation,,stating he is here for his health.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[Mr. Thomas is the leader of the National Union of Railwaymen in Britain, and recent English papers stated he contemplated a visit to America for health Reasons. The “betrayal of British miners” referred to no doubt alludes to the prominent part taken by Mr. Thomas in the recent refusal of the British railwaymen to support the miners in a na« tional strike.]
