THE NEWTON CASE.

ALLOWED TO LAND IN SYDNEY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 11, 8 p.m. Sydney May 11. Mr. Newton, of Dunedin, who was recently returned to Sydney from Auckland as he would not 'take the oath of allegiance before landing in Auckland, has been allowed to land. The Home Department explains there was no evidence of disloyalty in his conduct; his only reason for refusing to take tire oath of allegiance was that his religious belief would not allow him to do so. He was quite willing to affirm his loyalty.
