THE GRADING OF TEACHERS. By Telegraph—Press Association Wellington, Last Night. Representatives of the Technical Schools Teachers’ Association waited on the Minister of Education to-day with regard to the grading .scheme and other matters. Speakers made it plain that they approved the spirit and principle of the new grading regulations, but desired to see certain anomalies removed, relating principally to qualifications in grading and hours of work. They .also urged there should be no reduction in expenditure on education, particularly the technical branch. The Minister expressed appreciation of the approval shown of the effort made to place technical school teachers on a better and more definite basis. His desire was to see the regulations gradually improved and anomalies removed. He wished to see the grading officers adopt a benevolent attitude, as the scheme was just being started, especially with regard to old teachers. CONFERENCE OF DIRECTORS. Wellington. Last Night. The conference of directors of technical education to-day resolved to ask the department to admit holders of standard six competency certificates free to technical schools for all courses. The conference re-affirmed the desirability of the Minister of Education scheme for re-modelling the primary school syllabus so as terminate the primary course about the age of twelve years, the establishment of junior high schools, in which way he begins, preparatory courses in secondary subjects and prevocational subjects, and also further encouragement in agricultural education.
