BOY SCOUTS.

PRINCE OF WALES APPEALS FOR FUNDS.

The Boy Scout movement, like every other organisation to-day, needs funds for further progress, and the Prince of Wales realising its value to the community and Empire, has issued an appeal asking for a total of at least £200,000. Mail reports from England show steady progress in the campaign for funds, the amount already realised being £55,000, in addition to which the Council of the National Service League at an extraordinary general meeting voted the assets of the league, estimated at £lO,OOO to the fund. The Prince now invites the Overseas Empire to support the cause, and suggests a shilling contribution by the readers of newspapers.

The following jis the text of the Prince of Wales’s Appeal: St. James’s Palace, S.W.

“During my recent tour I had an opportunity of seeing the strength of the Boy Scout movement; it has spread to every land and corner of the Empire, and its possibilities for the future, both at home and overseas, are very great. » ‘’‘There iis an erroneous impression abroad that the work of the Boy Scouts is carried on without money; unfortunately, this is a complete misconception of the position. Considerable sums are required to meet the expenses of the association. At least £200.000 is essential in order to ‘carry on’ and to put the movement on a sound footing.

“On all sides I hear of grateful admiration for the men who have voluntarily carried out this work for' their younger brothers during the past 12 years. I want to suggest that everybody who feel's with me should express it by subscribing to a fund, which we could then offer to the Scouts Association as a mark of appreciation for its splendid work. “The movement, as I have seen for myself, is healthy and growing steadily; last year it increased in numbers and efficiency beyond all expectation. “Will you help it to double its numbers this next year? “EDWARD, P., “Chief Scout for Wales.”
