RAIN INJURES MAIZE CROP. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.-Copyright Brisbane, May 8. As the result of the six feet of rain which has fallen in the Cairns hinterland since the beginning of the year the record maize crop has been effected by mould. HOSPITAL SATURDAY FUXIS. Sydney, May 9. Incomplete Hospital Saturday collections total £15,900. It is anticipated that the fund will reach £20,000. MEMBER GOES’ BLIND. Melbourne, May 9. Mr. Maxwell, member for Fawkner in the Commonwealth Parliament, has gone totally blind, and desired to resign his seat, but, at the request of hie constituents, has decided to continue to hold it. MOUNT LYELL MINES. Hobart, May 9. A meeting of the employees of the Mount Lyell mines reversed the previous decision and decided to accept the company’s proposals for reduced wages.
