Mr. Massey arrived at Vancouver on Thursday. A Sydney message reports the death of Mr. A. F. Pritchard, ex-president of the Institute of Architects. Mr. Pritt chard was born in Auckland. Dr. Leatham left for Auckland on Saturday in order to be present at the recital to be given by his daughter and Miss Ava Symons this week.
A cable from London says the Marchioness of Conyngham, who is an Australian, obtained a divorce at Dublin on the grounds of her husband’s misconduct.
His Honor Mr. Justice Reed arrived in New Plymouth on Saturday evening to preside at the Supreme Court sittings opening to-morrow morning. His Honor and Mrs. Reed and His Honor’s associate (Mr. A. Hamilton) are staying at the White Hart Hotel.
Mr. W. Pi. Boon, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Boon, of New Plymouth, has been elected, unopposed, Mayor of Whakatane. Mr. Boon is well-known in this district and in Stratford, and his many friends will be pleased to hear of his success. Mr. Boon some years ago was a prominent forward in the Stratford senior football team as well as an active member of the Stratford Fire Brigade.
The wife of the Hon. Bertrand Russell has secured a decree nisi (says a cable from London). Mr Russell is the heir presumptive of Earl Russell. He gained notoriety and imprisonment for pacifist views during the war. He visited Russia last year and wrote a book condemning Leninism. Since then his whereabouts has been a mystery. A report was current that Mr. Russell died in Peking of influenza in March, but his family was sceptical.
