•LARGE PROFITS MADE.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, May 4. The half-yearly meeting of the Australian Colonial Sugar Company was held to-day. The report showed that the company made a net profit for the half year of £155,296, out of this a dividend of 15s per share was paid, absorbing £121,875 and leaving a balance of £33421, to which was added £251,888 brought into the accounts, making the amount carried forward £285,510.
The Fiji-New Zealand company earned a net profit for the year ended March 31 of £461,979. The dividend paid to September 30 absorbed £105,000, leaving available £356,979. Out of this a dividend at the rate of 6 per was declared on preference shares and a further dividend of 5s per share paid to ordinary shareholders in the parent company. The latter distribution means that ordinary shareholders receive a total dividend of 20s per share. The sum of £i65,854 was carried forward out of the year’s profit. In his speech the chairman forecasted good crops. Prospects were bright unless heavy rains reduced the sugar contents of the cane.
