BOXING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION.
In this issue .appears the full programme for the Taranaki Boxing Association’s tournament, which takes place in the Empire Theatre, New Plymouth, on Friday, 13th inst. The programme is easily the very best that the association has put forward. The professional bout between Tommy Thompson (winner of the army championships in France and England), and George Richardson (winner of twenty-one professional contests) should prove a fast and open contest, the competitors being evenly matched. The purse is for £l9O, the winner to take the whole of the purse.
The association have no hesitation in saying the amateur part of the programme will be the best yet arranged locally. In the feather-weight, Alan Humphreys, of Eltham, will oppose S. Hope, of New Plymouth. Two promising boxers in Brosnan and Willis will be seen in the light-weight. A. E. Clarry, of Eltham, will be matched with C. Oakes, of New Plymouth, in the welter-weight, while in the special bout, G. Thomas, of Wanganui, will try conclusions with F. Canute, of Stratford. Both these boxer? are known to be in the front rank, and always put up a good showing. A special professional bout will also be staged, the contestants being Hart, of New South Wales, and Dunlop, of New Plymouth. Mr. Tim Tracey, of Wellington, will referee.
