A 9th dividend will be paid to the shareholders next month. No losses have been made on any investments. As regards the Second Group the necessary legal and other formalities in connection with the transfer of this Society’s engagements and interests in such Group were duly completed during the past year and the Second Group shareholders are now members of the Third Group of the Hawera Starr-Bowkett Building Society, and this Society has no further interest in them or in the shares which they originally took up.” GENERAL. In view of the likelihood of the census figures being available this week, it may be interesting to Stratford residents to know that the population of the borough at the 1916 census was 27'13 and at the 1911 census 2639. The estimated population at the time is about 3000. Quite a large number of Stratford sportsmen visited the back country yesterday for the opening of the shooting season. They state that the weather conditions were not all that could be desired for shooting, and in consequence the bags secured were on the average fairly small. There was a record attendance at the dance held by the Foresters’ Lodge last night. Mrs. Bianchi, assisted by Mr. Bert Vinsen, supplied the music, and the floor, supper and arrangements generally fully met requirements. Extras were played by Miss Fisher and Mrs. Matthews. Messrs. Plews and Murray acted as M.C.'s.
