MAY DAY IN JAPAN.
LABOR DEMONSTRATIONS.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 3, 8 p.m. Tokio, May 2. May Day was marked by labor demonstrations of considerable importance throughout the Empire, especially in Tokio, Osaka, Kobe and Yokohama. A meeting adopted resolutions favoring an eight-hour day, assistance to unemployed, and the extension of the franchise to laborers. Paraders in Osaka carried a banner inscribed: “A revolution is near at hand.” The police guards were heavily reinforced, but generally they did not interfere with demonstrators, except in Tokio, where fifteen arrests were made, including a woman.— Aus. and N.Z.
