LIQUOR AT MASTERTON.

Masterton, April 30. At the S.M. Court this afternoon, Gordon Armstrong was convicted of keeping liquor for eale and fined £3O. Fred Slater, convicted of carrying liquor into a no-licenae district other than upon a proper order, was fined £25.
PRICE INVESTIGATIONS END.
Wellington, April 30. The Price Investigation Committees appointed by the Government during the war are to be disbanded at an early date. It is considered the need for their operations have passed, owing to the downward tendency of prices. The general supervision of prices will continue, and will be exercised by the Department of Industries and Commerce. The Hon. E. P. Lee states that he will take a further opportunity of referring to the work of the committees. The number of investigations made was much, larger than most people imagined, and the committees undoubtedly exercised an important restraining influence on the rise of prices at a time, of difficulty.
WHEAT BROKERS CONFER.
Wellington, April 30. Details of the new wheat scheme were discussed at a conference between brokers and Mr. McDonald. The conference, which was held in committee, was necessary to explain several points of the instructions issued to registered Government brokers. Mr. McDonald stated subsequently that any clauses in doubt, had been cleared up and he considered the scheme should work smoothly. Local brokers point out one difficulty, the lack of adequate storage accommodation, as wheat is likely to come forward in large quantities.
LOWER HUTT POWER SCHEME.
Wellington, Last Night. The Lower Hutt ratepayers decided tonight to adopt reports submitted for the installation of a hydro-electric scheme of lighting and power, estimated to cost £30,000. It was decided to call a meeting of local bodies as far as Waikanae to meet and consider a co-oper-> ative scheme.
