YAP CONTROVERSY.
ITALY SUPPORTS UNITED STATES.
EQUALITY OF MANDATORIES.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright Received May 1, 5.5 p.m. Washington, April 30. The State Department has published a Note from Italy stating that Italy is fully convinced that the United States is not asking any privilege in connection with Yap which is not equally granted to every other nation, including Japan, an# that the United States intends to protect the interests of others. Italy, therefore, completely agrees with the text of the American Note concerning the equality of rights among the mandatories in exercise of their mandates, and wishes and trusts that the just rights of everybody concerned in Yap will be recognised. Italy expects the conference of Ambassadors at Paris will pronounce itself in such a way as to eliminate every possibility of disagreement, and will conciliate all conflicting interests in Yap.y—Aus. and N.Z.
