OIL RESOURCES.
AMERICA AND THE NETHERLANDS.
QUESTION OF FOREIGN RIGHTS.
By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received May 1, 5.5 p.m.
Washington, April 30. The United States has sent a Note to Holland pointing out that the United States is vitally interested in obtaining recognition of the principle of mutual er reciprocal accessibility to vital natural resources by American nationals .along with the nationals of other countries, believing this is the solution of the future oil problems of the world. The Note adds that the United States is carrying the burden of supplying a large part of the world’s oils, and Dutch capital has free access to American oil deposits, save on public lands, where it is provided that similar privileges must be given to American citizens abroad. The United States therefore reminds the Netherlands that American capital is ready to assist in the development of the Djambi fields in the East Indies, and that a new Dutch company, with a foreign capital other than American, ig about to undertake the exploitation of Djambi. The Note concluded: “The United States is aware that the laws of the East Indies prohibit a foreign company, as such, from developing oil deposits.”—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
