LONDON MARKETS.

LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT.

HAWERA BRANCH.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report for the past week: — On the 18th instant at Opunake we tad a full yarding. There was a good attendance, competition was fairly brisk at every pc-n, and the hulk of the entries were sold under the hammer at late * rates. We quote:— Fat wethers Ils 9d, forward ewes 7s 6d, forward cows to £2 15s, store cows (good sorts) to £1 16s, springing heifers £5 5s to £7, others (close to profit) £9 10s, calved heifers £lO 15s, jersey heifers (small) r.w.b. £4 10s, weaner heifers 11s to 355, steers 8s to 15s, bulls 225.

W’e held our monthly sale at Manala on 19th instant, and a fair entry of stock came forward. We quote:—Fat cows £4 4s to £5 17s 6d, boners 15s to £1 10s.

At Eltham on Wednesday we bad a fair yarding of all classes of stock. Bidding was not brisk and a. large portion of the yarding was passed in. W’e quote:—Lambs (medium) 5s Id to 7b 6d, fat and forward ewes 9s, forward cows to £2 4s, stores 29s to 345, others at market value, heifers in calf £5, 20-unonth steers £3 16s.

On Thursday at Hawera a full yarding of both cattle and sheep was offered to a good attendance. The demand for the latter was not so keen, but most pens \,were sold. Practically all classes of cattle srild readily at the hammer, especially store arid meaty cows. In calf heifers met with a fair enquiry, but the cattle yarded were of moderate quality. W’e quote:—2-tooth wethers 12s 7d, fat ewes 9s sd, fat lambs Ils 2d, 4 and 6-tooth ewes 7s 9d, lambs (medium) Gs 6d to 6s 9d, b.f. lambs 6s 6d (pigs small) 5s to 7s, fat cows to £4 18s, forward ditto £2 12s to £3 10s, stores to 30s, others at market value, 20-month steers £2, cows (in calf) £8 to £9, weaner heifers (Jersey) £2 12s, others 15s to 275, bulls to 30s.

On Friday at W’averley we had only a small yarding. Prices were on a par with recent sales.

STRATFORD BRANCH.

The stock market at Stratford remains unchanged since our last report except for good weaner heifers and good 2%-year l.c. heifers well into jersey. Steers and Inferior quality heifers are not wanted. Sheep have only been yarded in small numbers, selling well in small lots, chiefly for killing purposes. At our Stratford sale on the 26th inst. we had a fair yarding. Prices: —Small woolly lambs 3s to 7s, 2-tooth wethers 9s Id, 2 and 4-tootl: wethers (forward) 13s, f.m. ewes 3s to 5s 6d, weaner heifers 25s to £2 6s, jerseys £3 to £4, small Ils Gd, weaner steers 14s to 265.

At Te W’era on the 22nd inst., we had a small yarding chiefly sheep. Prices Mixed 2-tooth (small) 6s 6d, 2-tooth ewes Ils, 2-tooth wethers 12s, lambs 6s Gd. At ’Tarata on the 15tfc’, yarding consisted mostly of i.c. heifers. Prices: —2o-month heifers £6 10s, i c. heifer 'calved £7 12s 6d. At Kohuratahi on the 27th inst., with Newton King Ltd., we had. a fair yarding of both sheep and cattle, but prices showed no advance on late rates. M.s. lambs 7s lOd to Bs, Mixed weaners £l, 2%-year steers £4, springing cows £6 to £6 12s 6d, sound store cows £2 to £4.

LONDON MARKETS.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 27th instant:— Tallow.—We qriote present spot values for the following descriptions:—Fine mutton £1 16s per cwt, good beef £1 14s 6d per cwt, mixed £1 6s per cwt; better market. Butter.—Market dull with downward tendency. (Last report £l3 5s per cwt). Cheese.—Colored £8 per cwt, white £7 Is per cwt; market firm. Frozen Mutton.—7%d to B%d per lb. Frozen Lamb.—ls 2d per lb.
