SCULLING.
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP.
WON BY PADDON
By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 1, 5.5 p.im. Sydney, May 1. The Australian sculling championship was decided yesterday, when Paddon defeated McDevitt.
Both men got away on even terms and sculled practically together till the threequarter mile point was reached. McDevitt rowed a fast stroke, but Paddon’s long, sweeping stroke began to tell, and at the mile he led by a length. After that the race was all Paddon’s. He never seemed to vary the stroke much, whereas McDevitt continued at *his usual rate. Three-quarters of a mile from home Paddon was leading by five lengths, when McDevitt livened up and made a determined attack, which he continued till the finish, when he was beaten by four lengths. Time, 19min. 40sec.—Aus.-N.Z. .fable Assn.
