AUTUMN BLOOMS.
CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW
A SPLENDID DISPLAY
The display of blooms at the New Plymouth Horticultural Society’s chrysanthemum show yesterday was a particularly attractive one. The championships in the chrysanthemum classes were awarded as follows: The premier white and champion bloom was awarded to Mr. J. Scanlan’s exhibit, a Louisa Pocket. The premier yellow was also secured by Mr. Scanlan’s entry, a J. S. Lloyd bloom, and he won the premier bloom of any other color with an Edith Cavell exhibit.
The classes were well patronised, and that the competition was keen was illustrated by the fact that in two of the sections a numbet of the exhibitors tied for the points prize. The quality of the exhibits was good, and the many visitors to the show could not fail to find much of interest in the different sections. A feature of the exhibits by amateur growers was the success of the blooms entered by Mr. Loftus Rea, and he won the solid silver rose bowl presented by Mr. and Mrs. Barthotp for the most gained in the chrysanthemum classes. The trophy has to be won three years in succession or four times at intervals. Exhibitions were made by a number of growers, including Duncan and Davies, of New Plymouth, who had a large array, Mr. Leathart, of Onehunga, Mrs. E. Jones, of Tariki (sweet peas, collarette dahlias, and African marigolds), and Mrs. John Gibson (peony dahlias and daJphenium). A? nice display of ornamental work was made by Miss Kelly. The decorative section of the show drew
a good number of competitors, who were responsible for some attractive displays. The executive committee responsible for the arrangements carried out their part creditably under the leadership of Messrs. N. K. McDiarmid (president) and J. W. Taunt (secretary). The prize list is as follows:
