CASE AGAINST A MAORI.

Rotorua, Last Night. The inquest on Patrick Richard Elliott, killed at Ongaroto, and the magisterial inquiry into the charge against Hakaraia Te Kahu, of murdering him, were resumed before*" Mr. Kenrick, S.M., to-day, and Mr. McDonnell, acting coronfer, sitting together. One witness deposed that accused had no money on Good Friday, and tried to borrow, from him. Several witnesses stated that Hakaraia had considerable money on Easter Monday. He lost. £5 at “two-up”, and jjaid it with a £5 note. A storekeeper deposed that Hakaraia paid him a £5 note on Monday. The postmaster deposed that this storekeeper sent away £l4O in money orders, paying in among the money two £5 notes with numbers corresponding to those of two notes sent to the deceased (Elliott) on Good Friday in payment of wages. The case was adjourned till to-morrow.
