PERSONAL.
Mr. Lloyd George has invited Sir Gordon Hewart to join the Cabinet in recognition of his eminent services. The offer has been accepted. Sir Gordon Hewart is Attorney-General. Mr. Harry Gilmour, formerly a very well-known citizen of New Plymouth, now resident at Karioi, in the King Country, is on a short visit to his brother, Mr. John Gilmour. The many friends of Mr. G. W. Rogers will be pleased to learn that he had sufficiently recovered from his recent operation to return to his home at Opunake yesterday. Major F. W. Sandford will be absent from New Plymouth for about three months in connection with the supervision of the erection of the Stratford Technical High School, for the Education Board.
Among the officers present at the Wellington Regiment re-unioh in Palmerston on Saturday night was Lieutenant Jack Grant, V.C., of Hawera, who was the only member of the regiment to receive the coveted honor of the Victoria Cross. In the House of Commons Mr. Lloyd George moved that the thanks of the country be given to Air. Lowther on his resignation of the Speakership, and that an address be presented to King asking him to mark Mr. Lowther’s services.
