IRELAND.

AMERICAN MONEY. SUPPORTS SINN FEIN CAMPAIGN: By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. New York, April 23. The New York Tribune, commenting on the rush of Irish emigrants to the United States, says: “One notes that many in Sinn Fein counties have no£ sufficient sympathy with the present Sinn Feinism to wish to stay and help it. Another thing is that Sinn Fein still relies on America to finance its campaign of terror, and voyagers from Ireland will be asked to revive in safe America aggressive enthusiasm for an anarchism they fled from. “Let us look to ourselves. Without American dollars Sinn Fefnism would probably long ago have ceased, many lives would have been saved, millions of pounds of damage might not have occurred, and Ireland might to-day be in a peaceful state of evolution towards that quasi-independence. Those who encourage Sinn Fein or Ulster extremists to continue the tragedy of hopeless guerilla revolt assume serious responsibility.”

HOSTILITY TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT. London, April 23. A letter has been issued by Cardinal Bourne to the Roman Catholic bishops of England, charging Roman Catholics to recite the Rosary in the churches continuously where possible, that a true, just and lasting understanding may be established in Ireland between* England and Ireland. Recent systematic attempts by Sinn Feiners to overthrow the administration of local government in Ireland is shown by documents captured by the Crown forces. It appears that 14 rebel inspectors were appointed to visit local government bodies and try to induce them to collect rates for Sinn Fein instead of the Government, but met with no success. An order was then issued last February, instructing brigade commandants of the Republican army to harass and boycott certain classes of loyal officials. In some cases rate money was extorted from ratepayers by armed masked men. The protests of county councils merely evoked rebukes from Sinn Fein headquarters, who emphasised that opposition to enemy regulations was the predominant consideration, even though some county councils suffered a financial breakdown.

DAIL EIREANN AT WORK. London, April 24. The official report of the Dail Eireann meeting in mid-April shows that all available members attended. Ministers presented reports from their departments which were discussed and adopted. Decrees were issued extending the general boycott to English goods throughout Ireland. The Minister for Home Affairs was instructed to prepare plans for a Bill*for the creation of conciliation boards. The meeting passed another Bill providing for the payment of unemployed benefits from the Republican funds. Decrees were issued forbidding speeches at the forthcoming elections except in the national language. Republican police were ordered to carry out various anti-Englis'h measures. The report of the special committee on the increase of Ministerial salaries was adopted.
