DISTRICT NEWS.

KAPONGA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) One of the largest gatherings seen in Kaponga met in the local Town Hall oh Monday night to farewell Mrs. Foreman and family,, who are leaving for Dannevlrke after nineteen years’ residence in this township. A fine concert programme was rendered by Mesdames Wylds and Hemingway, of Eltham, and Misses Wilson (2) and Tait, and Messrs. Silver and G. Betts, and Rev. Avery. Mr. R. G. Cook presided, and in an appropriate speech, spoke of the many sterling qualities and fine work done by Mrs. Foreman and family for the benefit of the district. Mrs. Foreman had been a tower of strength in assisting every institution in the district, and even with all her own trouble and sorrow had taken an active part in nursing during the time of the epidemic. Rev. Palmer and Messrs. Ward, Melville, and Bertie referred to the great work accomplished by the Foreman family. Mr. Ward presented Mrs. Foreman with a beautiful bouquet, and she also received a well-filled purse of sovereigns as a small token of gratitude from the district. Mr. Ford returned thanks on behalf of his sister, saying that Mrs. Foreman felt she had only done her duty. On behalf of the Cricket Club, Rev. Avery took advantage of the occasion to make a. presentation to Mesdames G. Betts and Preece for their kindness in always providing afternoon tea to the cricketers After the crowded assemblage had partaken of a sit-down supper, dancing was indulged in to the music of Mr. and Mrs. McCarty. On Tuesday evening another sqcial was held ui the local Parish Hall to farewell the younger members of the Foreman family, the dance music being supplied by Mesdames McCarty, Benton and Evans. Mr. H. Gibson presented a handsome gift each to Misses A. and G. Fault and Miss O. Foreman, who had helped so much In the church, Sunday school, and all social gatherings. Miss G. Faull suitably replied, thanking Mr. Gibson for his kind remarks, and all present for the fine gifts. Miss G. Benton played a pianoforte solo. A dainty supper was provided by the young ladies. The weather has become very cold and wet, that the dairying season will soon be drawing to a close. The Jeffrey family have left the boarding house, and will be missed from the district. The funeral of the late Mrs. George Gibson, last Friday, was largely attended. Mrs. Gibson was a very old identity, and had won the greatest respect and affection from all for her kindness and hospitality. The sorrowing husband, daughter and sons have the sympathy of the whole district, in their sad loss.
