TO-MORROW’S POLL.
ELECTION OF COUNCILLORS. THE HALF-HOLIDAY ISSUE. The municipal elections will take place throughout Taranaki to-morrow. At New Plymouth, Waitara, Inglewood, .Stratford, and Hawera only one candidate has been nominated for the office of Mayor, but at Eltham two canijjdates make an election necessary. For the selection of councillors elections will be necessary in each town. Exceptional interest is added to the voting tomorrow by the half-holiday issue, and the fact that Taranaki is striving to declare a universal Saturday half-holiday. The electors in New Plymouth will have quite a number of issues to decide. These will be as follow: Election of eight borough councillors. Two members for the New Plymouth Harbor Board. Three members for the Taranaki Hospital Board. Poll on weekly half-holiday. Poll on proposal to increase rate of interest on hydro-electric loans. Eleven candidates have been announced for the eight seats on the Borough Council. The following have been chosen by the ratepayers’ association: Messrs. V. Griffiths, R. L. Parkin and J. Kibby (sitting members), and T. N. Blackhall, E. Dingle, J. Brown, R. A. Large and W. Rumball. The Labor representation committee are putting forward three candidates. Messrs. W. H Fitzpatrick, G. T. Langley, and G. Scot,t. The sitting members on the Hospital Board (Messrs. M. Fraser, E. C. R. Gilmour, and J. S. S. Medley) will be opposed by Messrs. J. Brown and H. R. Cattley. For the two seats on the New Plymouth Harbor Board the sitting members (Messrs. C. E. Bellringer and J. S. Connett) have been nominated and Mr. J, O. Taylor is also a candidate. Hours of polling are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
