INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a comparatively small yarding of stock for the sale on Wednesday at Newton King, Ltd.’s yards, though in spite of the rough weather, (here was a large attendance. That the Jersey breed still retains its hold on the public’s favor was shown by the competition for heifer calves of that strain. Other lines did not show any signs of favorable alteration in the market. Lambs made 4s 6d to 6s, aged ewes in lamb 3s 9d,-others 7s 4d, store wethers 4s 9d, fat do. 7s 3d. In calves, steers sold at 15s, heifers 22s to 335. heifer calves showing' Jersey 395, and a choice line of Jersey strain heifers 87s. R.W.B. heifers 41s, store cows from 15s to 56s 6d for good quality, forward empty cows 82s 6d, heifers springing from £5 15s to £6 10s, and cows £5 10s to £9. \ . Since my former notes re the apparent quiet of this borough in regard to the municipal election, an" astonishing change has taken place. The first notable sign of interest was the nomination of fifteen candidates for the six seats at the council. Since then the fact that the burgesses were not really asleep, only playing ’possum, are very, distinct, and on every side are to be heard comments on the qualifications or want of them, possessed by the various aspirants. “There’s the making of a real tip-top council amongst ’em if only the right ones are picked,” one prominent citizen was heard to say. To which another P.O. replied: “Yes, or & jeal duffer if the wrong ones go in!” And as hardly any two agree which are the right ones and which the wrong, we shall have to be thankful if a team is chosen that will pull together, then we can cay they must have been the “right” ones referred to. The second shoot for the presentation gold medal was held by the Rifle Club on its range on Thursday in very favorable weather, though the tai] men had failing light to contend with at the end of the day. A mistake occurred in the report of the previous shoot. It stated 10 rounds per range were fired. Seven was the real number. Sorry; won’t do it again. There were 10 per range this time, and the scores were:
