FARM AND DAIRY.

STRATFORD MODEL DAIRY FARM. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Model Dairy Farm was held on the 12th inst. Present: Messrs. J. W. Deem (chairman), J. B. Richards, S. Pitt, W. Wickham, W. H. Were, E. B. Robertson. An apology was received from M». E. Marfell. ‘ ’ The secretary of the Manaia Demonstration Fam wrote offering ten weauei heifers (Jerseys). The secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the society, and state that the offer could

not be accepted, as the farm is fully stocked at present. The manager’s report stated:—Urass is getting very short; soft turnips will last for about a month. The oats and young grass in the bottom paddock are looking well. Five acres of oats have been drilled in field 12 (next to the mangolds), date March 18 and 19. Peas and beans were cut on March 9 and stacked on March 17. Crops: Mangolds are looking well, the Prizewinner making the. best growth. Carrots, Matchless whjte, and Magnum Bonum, tire running to seed; Sinclair Champion, an odd one running to seed, balance look well. A small quantity of hay, W|,th soft turnips, has been fed tb the cows during the rough nights. Two fat pigs were sold to the factory on March 16, and four more on March 30. Two pig houses have been completed, making a total of V vo movable houses and two permanent styes. About two acres of the soft turnip ground has been ploughed for oats. As white oats are unprocurable, the committee will have to consider the question of sowing Algerian oats and Scotch tares for hay crop. The supply of electric power during the month has been very poor, and on several occasions it was necessary to milk by hand, with the result that it was necessary to employ extra assistance for milking. The stock committee reported that owing to the low prices at present ruling for stock they were reluctant to dispose of any stock, and recommended that the sale of surplus stock be deferred until the spring. Mr. Richards gave notice of motion that the financial year end on June 30, and that the annual meeting be held in July.
