WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, April 21. A fishing launch owned by Mr. \Fran| Andrews was driven on the beach nea Urenui last week, owing to engin trouble. Eventually the party were abl to navigate her into the Urenui Rivet without a great deal of damage having been done. At the adjourned meeting of the Soil diers’ Memorial Committee, it was do* cided to canvass the town for subscrip* tions, and sub-committees were formed tor various wards of the town for that purpose. After the canvassers have com* pleted their task a public meeting will be called to decide what form the me* moria) shall take. The Mayor, Mr. Ren* nie and Mr. Pitcaithley were appointed an executive to act concerning the pro* ject. The compilation of names of those who made the supreme sacrifice at the war is being made in Waitara, and se far just on 30 names have been secured. The following have been nominated fol' seats on the Borough Council:. W. R Johns, A. W. Ogle, C. H. Johnston, E. C Jones, 4. E. Jaggs, J. Blair/ J. Rennie. T. Ewens. As only seven are a poll will be taksn on Wednesday, thc 27th instant. Mr. R. Morgan has bees elected Mayor unopposed.
