HELPING GIRLS.

THE Y.W.C.A. MOVEMENT. A public meeting, at which the Mayor will preside, will be held in the Soldiers’ Club this evening, at 8 p.m. The object of the meeting will be to organise the Young Women’s Christian Association in New Plymouth. The constitution will be read after certain preliminaries. A list of promised members will be received, and the Board of Directors will be elected. The administration of the association will be vested in the Board of Directors. These women will study the minds of girls and young women, and have general supervision of the work of the association. They will also promote the extension of th&.work in the future, but the establishment of the hostel will be their first responsibility. The Y.W.C.A. can do nothing less in a town than act on a community wide basis. Nothing else is practicable, even were it desirable. The town association claims to operate for the good of the whole community, and its aim is to be used in co-operative service for girls and young women. It does not exist for its members only. When with time it develops a programme of activities it will be open to all girls and women just as the hostel will from the beginning, regardless of their affiliation with the association as members. Membership, however, is desired because to join as a member is to definitely declare oneself in sympathy with the aims of this world movement.

Names of prospective members will be received by Mrs. E, A. Walker and Alias Earl any time before the opening of the meeting to-night. Miss Florence Birch will be present tonight to help to make preliminary plans for the Y.W.C.A. organisation. She will be specially glad to meet any young women who may be present or in their own respective groups. Co-operation is a slogan with Aliss Birch. She urges support and strengthening of all organisations that stand to promote the welfare, and to help to build up the Christian character of girls and yewuq woman.
