Sir Thomas Mackenzie will leave foi England to-morrow.

The Hon. D. T. Fleming has again been nominated by the Otago Education Board to represent Otago on the Council of Education.

Mr. A. T. Donnelly has been appointed Crown jSolicjtor for Canterbury in succession to Mr. S. G. Raymond, who resigned and is leaving for England. A London cablegram reports the death of Mr. John Cathcart Wason, M.P. for Orkney and Shetlands, who was for many years a farmer in New Zealand and a member of the House of Representatives from 1876-78 and 1896-99. One of the best known architects in Auckland, Air. John Currie, died on Sunday at his residence, Wood Street, Ponsonby, at the age of 70 years. A native of Coleraine, Ireland, Mr. Currie arrived in Auckland with his wife in 1874 in the ship Queen of Nations, At the great age of 104 years Air. Robert Rowe, the Wairaiapa centenarian, has good reason to feel satisfied with life, for he has excellent eyesight, almost unimpaired hearing, and is able to ride, smoke and enjoy all the pleasures usually the lot of a healthy man of middle age. An inveterate newspaper reader, Mr. Rowe takes a live interest in events throughout the world, and can discuss matters of moment in Britain to the produce outlook in his adopted country.
