PPvODUCERS’ SHIPPING LINE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Palmerston North, April 19. A meeting of the Manawatu A. and P. Association carried a motion favoring' the inauguration of a shipping line for the benefit of producers and exporters. It was decided to ask Sir •Thomas Mackenzie to represent the conference of representatives of agricultural and pastoral institutions throughout the Empire, to be held in London during the summer. HAWTHORN HEDGES. Cambridge, April 19. The Hon. W. Nosworthy. accompanied by Messrs. Young and Bollard, M.P.’s, and the orchard expert, visited the Waikato yesterday and met a representative gathering of farmers. They inspected hawthorn hedges between Tamahere and Cambridge. The Minister motorefd many miles. Farmers emphasise the point that the destruction of the hedges would mean enormous expense and reduce the country’s output. In the evening a large meeting of farmers was held at Cambridge. Several farmers urged the importance of the question, and a resolution was carried that a protective belt be formed north and south of the Waikato so that the hawthorn hedges might be saved in that area. The Minister gave a sympathetic hearing to the farmers and promised to' confer with his colleagues and see what can be done.
