PRICE OF MEAT.

FIRST AUCTION SALES. NEW PLYMOUTH PRICES. The first auction sales of fresh meat in New Plymouth drew a large attendI ance of the public on Saturday morning, and there were plenty of bidders. The sale was conducted by Messrs. Webster Bros., under instructions (from the Taranaki Farmers’ Meat Company. One hundred lots, comprising six sheep, ten lambs, and 24 joints of beef, were submitted and all were cleared under the hammer quickly. Prices varied a good deal, and compared with retailers’ figures would shdw a 10 per cent, reduction or more in some cases, while in other instances bidders went up to the retailers’ level. The sales are to be continued on Wednesdays and Saturdays in each week.
